GoHorseShow has been in the forefront of raising money for the recent storm victims. GoHorseShow.com has raised almost $8,000 so far that will be split between the Hughes and Ellis families, and 5W Ranch.
Dr. Susan Hedgecock of Emerson Preparatory School has very graciously donated a year-long scholarship to her on-line school valued over $10,000! All of the proceeds of this donation will go to 5W Ranch and Donna Preskitt who is having trouble receiving Federal help and struggling to keep her farm out of debt. The farm is located in Ohatchee, Alabama (near Tuscaloosa).
“I talked to many of my students, and we felt like we needed to do
something to help the victims of these terrible storms that recently
went through the south,” Dr. Susan Hedgecock said. “We would like to
raise at least half of the total amount of the tuition–$5,000. It is
for one year for grades 7-12, and the student of the parents that
purchases the donated scholarship will be treated like a regular
bonafide student with all the help and resources of all the other
students.”
The online auction for this donated scholarship will last for a week starting today – Monday, May 23rd, and will end on Tuesday, May 31st at 6pm central time. The auction will be posted on GoHorseShow.com’s Facebook page. There is a minimum bid of $2,000.00.
Former students of Dr. Hedgecock’s include, Dana Wilson, Kara Oldford, and Kelsey Moody. NRCHA Youth President Morgan Holmes of Triple J Ranch also attends this prestigious program. Emerson Preparatory School is an alternative more flexible program that fits well with the intense travel schedules of major athletes and horse show exhibitors. GoHorseShow.com’s own Dakota Diamond Griffith attends Emerson Preparatory School. Here is an excerpt from the article she recently wrote, titled, “Homeschooling 101 for Horse Show Kids”
My mother made the acquaintance of Dr. Susan Hedgcock who had been the longtime Director of one of the most prestigious preparatory academies in Florida. Ironically, Dr. Hedgcock was also heavily involved in AQHA, with a son who happens to be a past AQHYA President! For my Mom, this relationship became a match made in heaven. Dr. “H” had educated some of the most famous young tennis (including Andre Agassi) and golf athletes in the world, and was sensitive to their travel schedules. For Dr. H, putting a horse show program together was a “no brainer.” It was also at that time that I made the leap from a “textbook” based program to a “computer” based program. I loved the visual interaction of the online format, and the immediate gratification it provided as far as assignment completion, and test grading.

GoHorseShow would like to thank Dr. Hedgecock and the students of Emerson Preparatory School that were involved in helping get this scholarship donated!!
More about Emerson Preparatory School:
Emerson Preparatory School embraces the ideals of freedom, individuality, and integrity. The educational leadership of the school has over thirty-five years of experience educating elite student athletes as well as those who need the flexibility of a non traditional program. Emerson Prep is dedicated to a student-centered approach to academics. By establishing a partnership with families, parents are empowered to make better choices for their children.
An Emerson Prep academic mentor will design a customized educational plan to fit the learning style of each student which will include an academic profile. The result is a college preparatory program that provides the support for students to balance their extra-curricular activities with their equally demanding academic classes.
We monitor each student’s achievement as he/she progresses and provide academic reports to parents.
Our administrative staff works as mentors and facilitators with families to give them the support that they need to be successful. We go beyond the role of a traditional school of record. Our goal is to provide not only an outstanding curriculum, but the access to professionals to ensure each child’s achievement.
Choosing to either keep your child home and have us support your child’s education or to participate at one of our locations, parents have the comfort of knowing that their children are in a safe environment. Beyond flexibility, our parents expect to surround their children with people who mirror their value system. We provide the structure, support and accountability that most “home-schooled” families find challenging, especially in the high school years.
