GoHorseShow.com is happy to follow up our recent story about the talented 2006 red roan gelding, Sweet Movin Hotrod (Riley), learning the Western Riding and Trail from Highpoint Performance Horses. This Congress winner out of Miss Winnies Assets by Hotroddin Zippo was just purchased by the Brooks Family of Laurel Hill, Florida. Fourteen year-old Janet Brooks will be showing Riley in the 14-18 Western Pleasure this year.
Charlie Cole says that they will be under the guidance of Dean Bogart Quarter Horses and Riley is already on the way to his new home.
“I think Janet and Riley will be a great match,” Cole told GoHorseShow.com Monday morning. “She seemed to bond instantly with him and looks great on him–the family also seem to be the nicest people. I hope they continue the Trail and Western Riding with him, because I think he could be very talented in those events as well.”
This talented pleasure gelding won the Three Year-Old Non Pro at the Congress in 2009 with Kaleena Weakly and also this past year he was the High Point in the Nation in the Junior and Amateur Western Pleasure. He also won over $20,000 in futurity earnings.
The new owners inquired about the horse at the March to the Arch this past month and went and tried him out at Highpoint a few weeks ago. The sale was finalized Sunday. We talked to Kaleena about selling her beloved equine partner, and she started getting choked up about her favorite equine friend.
Kaleena talks about how she discovered Riley. She explains that her pleasure trainer, EH Pait was looking at the Tom Powers in 2009 for a new futurity prospect when he came across Riley. “I was about to lose hope, and then he came back to the stalls to tell me he found a great one. We were even more pumped because he was a novice horse that year.” (Pictured left Kaleena and Riley Photo © Jeff Kirkbride)
Her favorite memories with Riley are definitely the one-on-one time with him outside the show pen.”When we weren’t stressing out about all the little show details, he was very affectionate and loved to be loved on. I will also remember being able to change leads on him for the first time the weekend before we sold him.”
This talented non-pro and Amateur says her two favorite show memories with Riley was winning the 3-Year-Old Open Non Pro at both the Reichert and the Congress. “I had always wanted to win the three’s at the Reichert. He fulfilled every goal I had,” she says. “He has the biggest heart ever. Since we had a lot of goals set in both 2009 and 2010, we asked him for one hundred percent many times throughout the year, and he always rose to the occasion when it mattered most.”
Kaleena concludes her thoughts by saying, “Besides my personal connection with Riley, I will miss the feel of his one-of-a-kind lope and how he loved to be in the show pen.”
GoHorseShow also talked to the new owner Jean Brooks, and she explained that her daughter, Janet, has had several show horses, but it was time for her to move up to the next level. This year Janet and Riley will be showing in the 14-18 Youth Western Pleasure and will be adding events over the next few years.
The family asked Dean Bogart to help them find a good minded horse that Janet could have fun with and compete at the bigger shows. Dean had been looking for a long time, and at long last they found Riley.
AQHA judge and trainer Dean Bogart said that he tried to buy the horse a year ago but that he wasn’t for sale then. “I’ve always liked the horse, and I think he possesses what a pleasure horse should be–a great mover with natural carriage.” (pictured right is new owner Janet Brooks)
The new owner Jean Brooks adds, “Dean was so excited that he was for sale and feels he will be the perfect horse for Janet. Janet will train and show Riley with Dean Bogart and I will show my roan mare (Kiss On The Open Range) with Kim Rich who is our Ranch Trainer,” Jean says. “I sure hope we both have fun and success. Riley is a forever horse, and we are thrilled to invite him in to our family.”
Janet is beyond excited about her new horse and says she is losing sleep because she can’t wait to start showing him. This pretty 14 Year-Old is also President of the North West Florida Quarter Horse Youth Association (NWF), and she is planning to ride Riley on the Congress Team for NWF and hopes to represent her youth association very proudly on top of Riley.
Both Kaleena and The Brooks would like to thank Dean Bogart, Charlie Cole, and EH Pait for putting this deal together. GoHorseShow looks forward to seeing both mother and daughter showing their roan horses together, and congratulate them on their new purchase.
