GoHorseShow.com was able to talk to The Krymsun Kruzer’s owner Gerri Leigh Pratt and Mike Hay of Pilot Knob Quarter Horses who stands Kruzer about this stallion’s first foal crop. Hay says there are approximately fifteen foals on the ground with about fifty more to go this year.
“It is hard to keep up with the count because there are several being born every day,” Hay told GoHorseShow.com. “The foals I have seen appear to be big bodied, strong backed colts that are pretty headed. We are really excited about what we see so far and the breeding season for Kruzer this year has been going really well, and it is up from last year.”
Gerri Leigh Pratt said that the first two babies that she owns by Kruzer are gorgeous. The two broodmares that were bred to Kruzer are the famous pleasure mares, Hot Lopin Louise and Ona Impulse. Hot Lopin Louise had a gorgeous stud colt that Gerri says has the prettiest head. (Pictured right)
“We bred to all types of mares last year from pleasure, hunt seat, pleasure driving, and also branched out and bred Appaloosas and Paints. We bred over 75 mares last year. This is a new experience for me because I’m used to having halter babies. It is easier to tell with them how they are going to turn out. With the performance foals, I will have to wait a lot longer. It is definitely a different breeding experience, and I can’t wait to see how some of them progress.”
Congratulations also goes to Janna Imrie for having the very first The Krymsun Kruzer colt! This colt is named Clark and is out of Blue Ribbon Rosie, a 2004 Blue Roan by Radical Rodder out of Zip Stylish Invester. Thanks to Kathleen Downs of Market Street Marketing for providing GoHorseShow.com with the interview she did with Janna Imrie.
Kathleen: What’s it Like to have the very first The Krymsun Kruzer baby?
Janna: It is so amazing to have Kruzers first baby. Kruzer was born and raised near to me, so I was lucky enough to see him from the beginning and follow him as he matured into the great horse he is today. I have been looking forward to having a foal by him since he was a yearling, but having the first one is so special.
Kathleen: Is it true that you own The Krymsun Kruzer’s Dam? How long have you owned her?
Janna: I do own Pleasure N Passion ‘Mel’, Kruzer’s Dam. She is a gem, and I am so fortunate to have her. I bought her in 2005 when Kruzer was a yearling. I actually tried to buy Kruzer that year too, but the owners at that time, Bernie More and Bill Rinzema, decided to hang on to him until the next year when Gerri Pratt bought him. For the last few years I have been getting embryos from Mel with Becky Bailey. We are very excited and have a few promising prospects including a couple of Kruzer’s full siblings.
Kathleen: Have you named the baby?
Janna: I haven’t figured out the registered name for the colt yet, but his barn name is Clark. He got this name from Clark Kent, as I thought it was cute trying to stick with the Super(man) Horse theme!
Kathleen: What can you tell us about Clark’s Mom?
Janna: Clark’s Dam is Blue Ribbon Rosie a 2004 Blue Roan by Radical Rodder out of Zip Stylish Invester. I bought her as a yearling. She was shown in Longe Line, and actually showed against Kruzer. As I recall they tied each time they competed against each other! Back then I thought that it would be a great cross. Blu’s Dam is a point earning, and point producing daughter of Zippos Mr Goodbar and January Investment. She is a real sweetie and absolutely gorgeous.
Kathleen: What can you tell us about the Clark so far?
Janna: Clark is so cute! He has a dishy face, long legs and a strong hip. He loves doing lead changes in the arena, but mostly he loves to sleep. He actually sleeps standing up a lot, it is quite comical as he looks like he is about to topple over!
Kathleen: Do you have plans for Clark… keep and show him or sell him?
Janna: For now, my plan for Clark is to let him eat, sleep and play! I will likely wait until next year to decide if I will keep him or sell him, but either way, I’m sure he will be out showing and trying to follow in his Daddy’s footsteps!!
Kathleen: Are you planning to breed to The Krymsun Kruzer again?
Janna: For sure. I actually was so sure this cross was going to work, I bought this year’s breeding months ago.
