Blazinmytroublesaway, affectionately known as “Buttercup” was just recently voted as NSBA Horse of the Year for 2010. Her honor was richly deserved with over $68,000 in futurity winnings last year, three NSBA World Champions, and three Congress wins.
According to Rusty, Katie and Deanna Green, Buttercup has a home for life and is qualified for the AQHA World in the Junior Western Pleasure and Junior Western Riding and Rusty’s daughter, Deanna, has her qualified for the AQHYA World Show in the Western Pleasure. It will be this 12 year-olds first time to show at the World Show.
Blazinmytroublesaway has definitely lived up to expectations. Her late dam, Really in Trouble was discovered by Mike Carter from a horse trader, and he bought her on the spot as a green three year-old. Mike ended up winning the 3 Year-Old Open and Limited on her at the Congress and was Reserve World and Congress Champion on her in the Junior Western Pleasure. The mother and daughter look like splitting images of each other in color and movement.
“I loved that she was a Palomino,” Mike said on the phone to GoHorseShow.com about Buttercup’s dam. “She was a phenomenal jogger and loper and really good minded except when she got in heat at the World Show,” Mike laughs and said. “The crowd really got behind her and loved her color. I’ve never seen a bad color on a good horse. Her movement is so natural, so, it is not surprising that her daughter followed in her footsteps.”
When Blazinmytroublesaway was three years-old, Rusty Green heard Saul Sliss had her in training and that she was for sale. “I give Saul a lot of credit regarding developing the foundation on this mare. He did a great job with her,” Green said. “The mare does a lot better with Deanna (his daughter) than us. She is really careful with her and we plan on keeping her and doing some embryo transfers next year.”
Rusty’s wife, Katie, mentions that it was a funny story how Deanna ended up showing the Palomino mare. “Deanna just loves Palominos and she kept wearing us down. She just fell in love with her the first time she saw her. We were unsure about her showing a novice three year-old, but she finally talked us into it and they were a perfect match.”
“She is really sweet and really fun to ride but she was kind of hard to get to start riding because she was three and not as broke as my other horses were,” Deanna said. “At the Reichert it was really fun because she is like a really smooth loper and I wasn’t used to that. She was actually easier to show than she was to ride so when we won– it was really awesome. She is just a really cool horse.”
This duo ended up winning the 11&Under Western Pleasure and the Novice 13&U at the Congress as well as ending up Reserve in the Non-Pro Three Year-Old at the Congress. Katie Green also won the Green Western Pleasure at the Congress and was dominant in the Novice horse and Intermediate 3 Year-Old Western Pleasure classes at the futurities.
Another interesting fact is that the Green’s also have Buttercup’s full sister which is currently a two year-old that they are excited about as well as the horse that Nancy Wilkerson showed last year and won the Congress with, Troubles A Blazin, was from the same embryo flush as Buttercup–so they are full sisters too.
GoHorseShow.com congratulates the Green’s on the success of this great mare and look forward to seeing her again in the winner’s circle.
