Each year, talented amateurs from across the country vie for the Farnam All-Around Amateur Award at the AQHA World Championship Show. The coveted award goes to the top amateur horse and exhibitor team who earn the most points during the show.
The 2009 winner was Jessica Johnson of Pickerington, Ohio, and Royality In Blue, and they are back this year, entered in five classes.
Any amateur who enters and shows one horse in a minimum of three events is automatically eligible. An amateur may exhibit more than one horse; however, points earned with each horse will be compiled separately. Points toward the award are based on final top 10 placings and total number of entries in each class.
At the start of Bank of America Amateur Week, there were 63 eligible contenders entered in more than three classes; 14 were entered in four; four entered in five; and one in six classes – Maggie McCrady of Kirkland, Washington, and Image Assesment.
As of the horsemanship finals on November 9 – here are the top 5 standings. Keep in mind, several contenders haven’t shown yet.
