Darol Rodrock Buys Huntin For Chocolate at Congress Sale

MORE NEWS: Huntin for Chocolate was sold at Congress Super Sale to Darol Rodrock for $300,000 and will be back standing in 2011 at Gumz Farms in Morgantown, Kentucky. The former owner, Pamela Bilek and the undisclosed lien holder will split the proceeds 50/50. Every year, Bilek also retains three free breedings to this outstanding sire. Gumz and Rodrock are looking forward to promoting this stallion. His breeding fee for next year with remain at $2000, concessions going to point earning and mares with outstanding bloodlines.

New owner, Darol Rodrock, was beaming when GoHorseShow.com talked to him at his stalls at the Congress in the Gilligan barn following the sale. “I want to have the strongest band of stallions in America that will benefit our industry,” Rodrock says. “There are thousands of horses born every year, but there are very few that can have an impact on the horse business. Huntin for Chocolate is one of those sires that is going to be able to make a difference. I am going to promote him and get his babies in the right hands, and I am excited to be able to help enrich people’s lives by providing high quality stallions and prospects for the general public.”

“This stallion has a lovely temperament,” said Amy Gumz of Gumz Farms when interviewed on Stallion Avenue in Congress Hall. “During breeding season, my 15 year-old daughter rides him around and change leads on him. He is a lovely horse with a great disposition, and he is already a proven sire.”

AQHA World Champion and World Champion Sire, Huntin For Chocolate, will be sold at the Congress Super Sale on October 16 pursuant to a settlement agreement between the current owner, Pamela Bilek and an undisclosed lien holder. Bilek was unaware there was a lien placed on the horse by former owner Charles Pircher when she purchased the horse from him in 2009. It is common in the Thoroughbred industry to place liens on horses, but in the stock horse industry, it is rather unheard of, and the idea of running a title search on a Quarter Horse is very uncommon.

“This amazing stallion and sire was placed in an unfortunate situation with its prior owner,” says Tami Napier, the attorney representing Pamela Bilek.

There will be no reserve placed on this stallion at the sale. According to Napier, “He was retired sound, and he still is sound. He is great minded. Has a 94% conception rate and has been breeding to a full book of mares. He recently sired the 2010 Select World Champion in the Western Pleasure and has sired several world class performance horses.”

The 1996 gray stallion was the 2000 AQHA Amateur World Champion in Western Pleasure. That same year, he was also the Reserve World Champion in Junior Western Pleasure. He is a sire of multiple World and Reserve World Champions as well as Point Earners for All Divisions totaling almost 8000 points, AQHA Incentive earning of $89,785.56, AQHA World Championship earnings of $56,539.03, and NSBA Earnings of $313,709.73.
