GoHorseShow.com received news that well respected horseman Doug Schembri died Tuesday from heart disease at his farm in Florida.
“From the sources we heard, he was working on a water pump next to his equine swimming area and grabbed a live wire,” says Katie Mitchell of Mitchell’s Show Horses. “This tragic event just proves that anything can happen to any one of us…at any time.”
It was believed that he was electrocuted, but several reports indicate that he may have had a massive heart attack instead. GoHorseShow.com has yet to confirm this information, and it is still unclear as to his exact cause of death.
Schembri, together with his wife Susan, are the owners and operators of a world renowned equine facility, Char-O-Lot Ranch in central Florida. With over 40 years experience in the equine industry, Doug offered unparalleled expertise in breeding, training, sales, marketing and development of horse programs throughout the United States and Internationally.
Their farm stands top stallions in the industry such as, The Hunter, who is currently the Leading Appaloosa Performance Sire. Schembri was a huge presence in the Appaloosa industry, and he will be greatly missed by this group as well as the rest of the horse industry.
Our heartfelt condolences to his family. We will post more information as it becomes available.
