AQHYA Winning Run: Horsemanship

Riding
the gelding she’s had for four years, Certify This Chex, aka “Lug
Nut,” Carey Nowacek of San Antonio, Texas, took the 2010 youth
horsemanship world championship in her first Built Ford Tough AQHYA
World Championship Show finals appearance. Carey also competes as a
member of Texas A&M’s varsity equestrian team, where the competition
is based on catch-riding horses you’ve never ridden. “Coming here (to
the Ford Youth World), it’s all about you and your horse together and
you don’t have anything to blame (mistakes) on,” she says – like
not knowing your horse. “This (win) feels amazing.”
