Welcome The Big Sensation and Merritt Equine Ventures

After
owning The Big Sensation’s very first foal, Lacy Merritt knew she was a fan of
The Big Sensation, but actually owning the accomplished stallion is a dream
come true. Lacy and her family recently purchased the 4-Time World Champion and
APHA All-Around World Show Horse from Sharnai Thompson and Tammy Dyer of Taymar
Ranch.

“Jerry,”
as The Big Sensation is affectionately known, will continue to stand at High
Point and will be presented at the major shows by Lacy Merritt in Amateur
Classic Senior Hunter Under Saddle. Alongside this champion will be his first son
The Big Maneuver in Amateur Classic Jr Hunter Under Saddle, also owned by the
Merritts. Both horses are showing under the guidance of James Saubolle at Elite
Show Horses in Texas.

“I
have always wanted a horse like Jerry and have been watching him for awhile a
while,” says Lacy. “Jerry has always been my dream horse. He is the
best-minded stallion I have ever been around. He really is a phenomenal horse
and his babies are turning out to be great-minded athletes as well.”

His
foals have been turning out so well that The Big Sensation is already a World
Champion Sire. It’s no wonder since World Champions run in this family. The Big
Sensation is a 16.3 hand 2003 APHA Stallion by multiple World Champion sire
Zippos Sensation and out of an AQHA World Champion producing TB mare. The
Merritts look forward to carrying on the legacy this exciting stallion created
in the Paint industry.

“We’re
so excited that Sharnai and her family allowed us to purchase this great horse.
Buying a stallion was not our original plan but the opportunity to own Jerry
fell into place and could not be passed up.”

Why
sell a great stallion like Jerry? Well when you have top horses in both breeds
overlapping APHA and AQHA shows, it makes it almost impossible to do
both. “It was too hard for us to do both,” said Sharnai. “We have won a lot
with him and loved him, but he didn’t need to stay standing in his stall, and
that is what he was doing. I wish them the best of luck, and I have no doubt in
my mind that they will be successful.”
