What is up with New Year’s Resolutions? Where did they originate and does anyone really ever follow-through on them? Well, according to mythology, the Roman God Janus (for which January is named) had a hand in all this. He was that two faced guy. We all know one of them, right? Ha, ha – (sounds like a personal problem). But seriously, he actually had two faces, one that faced backwards, and one forward so he had the power to see both the past and the future.
New Year’s resolutions are said to date back to Ancient Babylon where their holiday was celebrated over 11 days. (I’m at the Gold Coast, and I’m pretty sure this party could go on another 10 days too.) The most common resolution of the Babylonian’s was to return borrowed farm equipment. Sounds boring… but can you do any better?
I tried to get to the bottom of it all. Most of us have a certain commitment phobia to begin with but we find it especially hard when it comes to making a resolution. Carl Yamber actually playfully jumped in his truck to attempt a fast get-away when I pressed for his. I felt like the paparazzi chasing Tiger Woods. Just kidding, but it does put people on the spot if only for a day.
So what’s your New Year’s Resolution?

Now for the good news/bad news. Statistically, more women than men make resolutions (74% of women vs. 58% of men). The bad news is that men are more likely to follow through on theirs (22% of men vs. 14% of women). Why do we fail? Experts say it is because we make the wrong resolution.
What’s mine? To do a better job of being on time for which I have already failed. Sorry guys, I know this article was due yesterday!
