2009 AQHA World Champion: Amateur Performance Halter Mares

As the horses in the amateur performance halter mares were lined up under each judge, Christy Brasier wasn’t sure where she and her niece’s mare, Photons Cool Carrie, would place in the class. Under AQHA judge Mark Sheridan, they were fifth while under Tracy Willis they moved up to the front of the line. Judge Russ Smith placed them second, but Margo Ball put them back in first place and Brad Gibby moved them to fourth. Standing against the rail near her family as the final placings were called out, Christy had resigned herself to being reserve champion. However, that title went to Suzannah Fuhrman and FF Would Ya Look, whose work total was 302, just one point lower than Photons Cool Carrie’s 303. Christy’s family cheered with joy as she came forward to accept her first gold trophy. The Journal caught up with Christy in the Super Barn to ask her what it’s like to be a world champion.
