You hear it over and again – a win with a horse is somehow sweeter when you’ve raised that horse, and Sharnai Thompson of Cornelius, North Carolina, will attest to that. On November 8, she rode her talented 3-year-old bay stallion Hot Ones Only, aka “Bruno,” to the 2009 amateur hunter under saddle world championship, unanimous under all five judges. “I was so nervous I couldn’t button my shirt!” she said in the arena, laughing after her victory lap, throwing the world champion’s T-shirts to the crowd. “I am so proud to say that I have raised a world champion,” she added. “That means a lot to me. I’m so proud of him.” The Journal caught up with her again outside the arena.
