About The Cover by Debby Brehm

I have been showing Quarter Horses my entire life, and I am so happy that my daughter Morgan shares my passion. In the 1960’s we would show halter in the morning and then ride all the western events in the afternoon on the same horse. As the Quarter Horses became more specialized I continued to enjoy showing the halter horses and in 1983 I began training with Denny Hassett. Denny and his wife Dana and I have enjoyed a 25 year relationship, a feat almost unheard of in the horse industry. Together we have won five World Championships and six Reserve World Championships. My daughter Morgan has had a very successful career so far in youth halter, winning three World Championships and three Reserve World Championships since her debut at the Youth World when she was nine years old. This year she is showing “Shez One Classy Kid” in Youth Aged Mares.

Morgan began riding in AQHA Western Pleasure in her early teens. At that time we joined up with trainers Jeff and Windy Allen from Omaha, Nebraska and have continued that partnership today. I couldn’t ask for better people to work with Morgan–when she travels with them they treat her as if she is their own. Not only have Jeff and Windy coached Morgan into becoming the excellent rider she is today, they also teach her about life and making good decisions. It was Jeff and Windy who introduced us to J.R. Reichert and through him we have been able to find great horses for Morgan to ride. J.R. sold us “Living Off Interest” in 2006, a horse that was standing 5th in the nation in Youth Western Pleasure at the time of his untimely death in May of 2007. Morgan needed a youth horse immediately and again Windy came through. She called Troy Compton who told us about “SL Miss Alli”, winner of the 2006 Congress Non Pro 3-year-old Futurity. Windy and Morgan flew to Troy’s ranch, rode the mare, bought her, and brought her home to Nebraska where Morgan qualified for the Youth World in eight shows. That August she was a finalist at the AQHA Youth World on “Gabby” after riding her only 2 ½ months. Morgan has continued to have great success with this mare at the Congress, Youth World, and other circuits.

Morgan began riding English in 2008 and in the fall Windy again went to J.R. Reichert to find another top horse for Morgan. (I have to keep the checkbook handy when Morgan and Windy travel as those two are always finding horses to buy!) Thanks to J.R. and his customer Susan Knapp we were able to purchase “Only Pretentious” for Morgan. Susan and this horse had won the Amateur Select Hunter Under Saddle at the Congress in 2007 and Windy was really “high” on him. A good choice as Morgan and “Dave” have become a great team and are enjoying a successful 2009.

Showing American Quarter Horses has been a great family activity for us. My son, Garrett, isn’t interested in showing but enjoys the camaraderie and you can find us at a show almost every weekend. I am fortunate that I can provide top-level horses for Morgan, and we are so fortunate to have developed great relationships with Denny and Dana Hassett, Jeff and Windy Allen, J.R. Reichert, Troy Compton, and many others in this industry.
