Jerry Wells Memorial Scholarship Halter Futurity To Be Held At Redbud Spectacular

The inaugural Jerry Wells Memorial Halter Horse Futurity will be held on Friday, June 5, 2009 as a special event at the Oklahoma Quarter Horse Association’s annual Redbud Spectacular Horse Show at the Fairgrounds Arena in Oklahoma City, which runs from May 30 through June 7, 2009.

This Futurity is open to Quarter Horse yearling Colts, Geldings and Fillies in both Open and Non Pro classes. The Futurity has approval of both the Oklahoma Quarter Horse Association and the World Conformation Horse Association.

The Redbud Spectacular is one of the largest Horse Shows in the nation and is coming off a record year for entries in 2008. The Futurity is designed to promote the American Quarter Horse, the Conformation horse and, of course, to honor the legendary horseman Jerry Wells. Ten percent of entry fees will go into the annual scholarship program started by the Wells family in 2008 after Jerry’s death.

Along with the goal to promote entries to the Futurity, sponsorships for the event are being solicited. If you, a horseman who appreciates the accomplishments of Jerry Wells and what he has contributed to the equine industry, have not been contacted by the Futurity committee and would like to donate to the Futurity, or enter the Futurity, contact Robert Young, Futurity committee chairman, at 1-800-828-0279, or Oklahoma City area local number 405-527-8117.
