We are excited to unveil the April issue of GoMag spotlighting Susan Knapp, her daughter Sara Terry, and their two fabulous horses, Cool Krymsun Lady and Radically Fired Up. This month’s cover is especially unique not only because it is a two-page spread, but features an extra-special element with the addition of video and audio on the left hand side. Many thanks to JR Reichert and Susan for encouraging GoHorseShow.com to push the envelope and Holt Pope of Holt Advertising for creating this revolutionary product. Elements like these further GoHorseShow.com’s commitment to being “the future of equine advertising.”
About The Cover by Susan Knapp
Our family has always loved horses and when Sara was a young girl she and her younger sister, Anna, were often seen in the back seat of a Jeep Wagoneer with their mother at the wheel and a three horse trailer in tow. Heading to open horse shows on the weekends had become a family tradition. However, in time, the girls grew up went to college and the horses were retired to our green pastures.
About five years ago, with Sara’s encouragement, we started showing AQHA shows locally and then nationally. Sara and I were excited to place Top Ten at the congress on our first tries. In 2007 I had the good fortune of winning the Congress in Amateur Select Hunter Under Saddle on “Only Pretentious.” Shortly thereafter I decided to trade in my Hunt Seat saddle and try my luck at western pleasure. With this announcement, my husband Bill declared that if we were truly going to spend our every spare moment training and showing then we needed to find horses capable of helping us win.
We have purchased every horse that we own through JR Reichert, so when we told him last year that we wanted to step up and find a horse or two that we could show and breed as we transition into a business that produces top notch show horses, he was more than ready to help. We were on our way to pursuing our horse show dream.
We were looking for just the right horse. Finally at the Tom Powers last year, JR said he had a horse in mind but he wasn’t sure if the owners would part with her. When we watched “Cool Krymsun Lady” go around under the direction of Gil Galyean, she was the softest horse we had ever seen. Bill asked how much and JR told him. I was turning the key of the golf cart to leave when I heard Bill say “We’ll take her.” She then won the Tom Powers, Southern Belle, NSBA World and the Congress. Sara will be showing her this year in amateur western pleasure and hopes to have a successful show season ending on a high note at the 2009 world show.
In October, we received a call from JR telling us he had another mare for us to consider. He took Sara, Bill and me to meet “Radically Fired Up” who had just won the Congress Maturity. There we saw Rusty Green ride the second most beautiful horse we had ever seen. Bill loved her and we bought her on the spot. Rusty went on to win the Gold and Golf coast circuits. We both won circuit awards at the Sun Circuit and I qualified for the Select World.
We have two of the finest horses in the AQHA show ring today. We feel very humble and fortunate to own these beautiful hard working horses and we feel equally fortunate to have Rusty Green and Gil Galyean as trainers.
