OCALA – Stanley Scott, 63, went through his Monday as usual, riding his horse around his Haylo Farm property in northwest Marion County.
On Sunday morning, Scott came upon a man the U.S. Coast Guard had written off for dead the night before. Now, a father and his son, who was also lost at sea, are making a full recovery after being stranded in the ocean for 14 hours. They are recovering because, headed to sea on a fishing trip, Scott had spotted the dad.
Because Scott and his friends were on his boat, Open Range, the story of Walter Marino and his 12-year-old son, Chris, being stranded at sea has a happy ending.
He’s a hero, but he won’t go as far to say so.
