Harris Leather and Silverworks and the entire Harris family have been involved with the Southern Belle futurity dating back to 1993. Saturday night in Tunica, Mississippi, that relationship took yet another step with two large donations made to the show.
In a strong showing of support for the futurity as well as the pleasure horse industry, Harris donated a show saddle as well as paid $5,000 to a randomly drawn exhibitor who rode in a Harris saddle in the $100,000 Novice Horse Slot class.
15 out of 23 of the riders showing in the prestigious class were mounted in a Harris Leather saddle. Before the class placings were announced, Kenny Lakins’ name was drawn randomly as the winner of the $5,000 check. Lakins chose to show in his wife’s one-year-old custom made Harris show saddle, and his choice paid off.
“This means a lot to me and my wife, Ashley”, Lakins told GoHorseShow.com upon exiting the arena. “I’ve known the Harris family for over 15 years and they have made saddles for my Dad for a long time. I really appreciate the Harris family and what they have done for the industry. They’re great people.”
Another lucky rider left the arena with his hands full. (See picture in slide show under main picture.) Matt Klingsporn’s name was also drawn randomly and he won a Harris show saddle valued at $7,500.
“I’m speechless,” said a very humbled Klingsporn. “I’ve really needed a show saddle and have had to borrow one all year. Thank you to the Harris family. They are so genuine and willing to give back for the better of the industry. They don’t have to, but they do, and it really means a lot.”
Congratulations to Lakins and Klingsporn. You represent Harris Leather and Silverworks well!
