Trio of Champions Win Big Checks at the Madness Saturday

Archer and GG Win SOQHA Maiden Three Year Old And Older

In about 45 days, David Archer transformed Eric Mendrysa’s four year old all around prospect, The Silver Foxx, into the winner of the SOQHA Maiden Three Year Old and Older Western Pleaure Slot Class. They earned $15,000 for the win, with David winning the Intermediate Rider award as well as the $2,000 Harris bonus for riding in a Harris saddle.

“He really is a true maiden horse, because he wasn’t brought out as a two year old and not shown until late in his three year old year,” Eric said.

“We were riding him around at a show in draw reins and doing Trail and changing leads, when David approached us and told us he thought we could have a contender. He took him home, and two weeks later we were amazed and how good he looked, so we sent our entry in right away!”

The Silver Foxx, known as GG, is by Lazy Loper and out of the late Goodbars Glamourgirl. “I had always wanted a baby out of that mare, and we were able to get this one from Blake Britton,” Eric said. “He couldn’t be a more perfect horse. We don’t longe him and just warm him up and go show him. This certainly made the 30 hour trip from Boerne, Texas worth it!”

Western Winners
The Three Year Old Novice Horse Western Pleasure Slot Class was did not disappoint, with a roster of 17 competitive horses and riders going through their paces for the $50,000 purse.

Aaron Moses proved to have the winning ride aboard Its A Pretty Thing, showing for owner Amy Gumz. The trio won $15,000 for the first place finish.

“I just got her in January,” Aaron said of his mount. “She is by Its A Southern Thing, or Moonpie, and out of Pine Ventures, a Pine Interest mare. Her barn name is Callie. She was broke when I got her, but she has just gotten better and better as she has grown and gotten more mature.”

Aaron had a lot to like about his horse. “We just showed her for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and we’re still figuring out what we’ve got, really. She’s beautiful, and she just has such a natural look with a lot of flow. She presents such a pretty overall picture, and she can show well on or off the rail.”
