APHA Announces Fee Updates for 2017

FORT WORTH—The American Paint Horse Association will be implementing several fee updates effective January 1, 2017. Paint Horse breeders will benefit from reduced fees in some key areas.

APHA will end a decades-long fee for those using shipped semen. The association’s Executive Committee voted to eliminate the $100 transported cooled/frozen semen permit fee and, earlier this year, voted to lower the cost of entry into APHA’s Breeders’ Trust incentive program as a way of rewarding breeders for their commitment to breeding Paint Horses.

“They’ve stuck by us, we want to stick by them,” said APHA President Susie Shaw. “Between reducing the semen fee and reducing Breeders’ Trust, we’re hopeful it will help stimulate the industry.”

The Executive Committee also voted to raise some fees, some of which have not been increased since 1987. Registration fees for solid Paint-bred horses will now mirror those of Regular Registry, and transfer fees for both will increase to $25. Regular Registry registration will remain unchanged and both can enjoy reduced rates by registering Paint Horses by way of APHA’s web-based registration system.

“Transfer fees have not increased since 1987 but as anyone in business knows, the cost of doing business has increased sharply since then,” said APHA Executive Director Billy Smith. “The cost of registering solid Paint-breds is the same as registering Regular Registry horses, so these modifications will reflect that reality.”
