I’m happy to update everybody on Chele! It’s been 12 days since the flooding. The water finally receded enough a few days ago that they were able to bring in pumps to get rid of the rest. In fact- she sent me a video of the tractor pushing sludge out of the barn! She is happy to say that when she was finally able to get back to check her house- a lot of her personal items are salvageable! She told me that this gofundme account helped pay for the equipment, dumpster, and port-a-potty! She’s hoping to be able to bring in some big fans- to see if they can dry up some of the damage. She said none of this would have been possible with out all of your help! And prayers! THANK YOU everyone! Your generosity and words of encouragement are helping her to put her life back together! Thank you so much!

I’m sure most of Chele’s friends have been following her story. Elm Grove, Louisiana, was hit by a historic flash flood. They received 22 inches of rain in less then 23 hours. On Wednesday, many of Chele’s friends and neighbors came to help her. They were able to move 300 head of cattle to dry land. By the next day- the roads were impassable. Friends helped her pump water, to try to clear a path to get the horses out. They had to walk through-actually swim-up to 12 feet of water to take care of the livestock. Everybody pitched in-and even filled well over a 1000 sandbags to fill holes in the levee. More rain was on the way.

They were able to move all of the horses out on Friday. Just in time. The water overflowed the levees. The house and barns were also filled with water. You can see in the picture- that’s the road between house and floodbarn. To the right you can see the top of a fence line.  All 25 acres are under water- and a complete loss. When I talked to her last night, she was so thankful for the help she received from her friends and neighbors, many who also lost their homes. I asked her if she was able to save anything from her house- her reply was that she was to busy trying to save her livestock-but she was able to grab one bag of personal things. And of course- her family-also her three best friends- her dogs!

Her friends and neighbors showed us how wonderful mankind can be. Even though many of them also lost everything they had, they still jumped in to help Chele save her animals. Typical animal lovers- everyone- the animals came first! I’m hoping that we can all donate-even just a little bit- to help her out in her greatest time of need. It will be a long road for Chele, to get her life back in order. But with all the kind and caring people we have in our world….hopefully we can make her path a little easier!
