The main event at the 2010 Southern Belle Invitation, the $200,000 added Novice Horse class, was held Saturday night. Shirley Roth and her 3 year old red roan mare, Kiss Onthe Openrange,
bested a field of 28 horses to win $58,500 at The
Southern Belle in the Breeders 3 Yr Old $2,500 Novice Horse WP.
GoHorseShow.com’s Kyle Brenner spoke with Roth immediately following the
win, “I can’t even believe it, it’s just overwhelming. It’s going to
take a day or so to sink in.”
Roth is the breeder and owner of the mare who is by Open Range (deceased) and out of one of Roth’s broodmares, Zipped N Kissed. As for preparing her horse for the big class, Roth said “I left a bunch of horses at home so I could focus and get her
ready. She was ready. She was really really good.” Roth added, “My ride was perfect. She
was perfect. I didn’t even have to touch her. She just went around.”
