UPDATE: Buyer To Possibly Be Announced

BABCOCK LIQUIDATION

UPDATE: BUYER TO POSSIBLY BE ANNOUNCED TODAY

The American Quarter Horse Journal, September 30, 2010 — Based on a Journal telephone interview with Tim Jennings of Professional Auction Services, it’s possible that the buyer for the nearly 200 horses from the Babcock liquidation will be announced later today.

“We had interest from potential buyers from Italy, Mexico and all over the world,” Jennings said. “There were seven bids, three that qualified.”

Jennings was waiting for theUnited States Bankruptcy Court or the Eastern District of Texas, Sherman Division, and the bankruptcy trustee to finalize the paperwork on the accepted bid.

As the Journal told you last week, the bankruptcy trustee for Babcock Ranch at Valley View, Texas, has ordered an immediate sale of the ranch’s horses as a group, which will also now include the stallions Trashadeous and Cowboy Smarts. This whole-herd sale replaces the previously scheduled dispersal sale, which was set for mid-October.

Trashadeous is by Be Aech Enterprise and out of Miss White Trash by Mr Gun Smoke. The 1987 stallion has earned more than $131,103 in National Reining Horse Association competition.

Cowboy Smarts is a 1998 sorrel stallion by Smart Chic Olena and out of Clarks Hilda Bar by Clark’s Doc Bar. Cowboy Smarts was the 2007 AQHA Select reserve world champion in reining. He was third in AQHA Select reining in 2006. He was the AQHA year-end high-point reiner of 2007.
