Canadian Horse Trainer Wins $35.7 Million in Lottery

GoHorseShow.com would like to congratulate horse trainer Sandra Morgan of British Columbia for hitting the jackpot–literally! Her family just won $35,738,798 million dollars in the Canadian lottery, and they get all the money free and clear, because they don’t have to pay taxes in Canada on lottery winnings!

Sandra spoke to GoHorseShow.com about her win. “We are getting ready to charter a helicopter to fly to Vancouver to pick up our check. There weren’t any flights or ferrys out. We are also going to take in a hockey game while we are there.”

Morgan’s husband, David Rennie, checked his Lotto Max ticket at a local convenience store and found out the exciting news.

A past client of Morgan’s, Barbara Stewart of British Columbia says that Sandra is a very hard worker. “Her family lives on Vancouver Island on the northern tip of it–the island is 350 miles long. You have to either take a ferry or fly off to get to the mainland,” Stewart says. “She does a lot of traveling to the big shows in the south, so, it is a big big chore for her, but she has always done it. She works hard for her clients and has been in the business for years.”

Morgan is a past Congress winner, and one of her clients, Kaitlynn Francis recently won Reserve in the Non Pro Hunter Under Saddle Maturity at the 2011 Silver Dollar Circuit in Las Vegas, Nevada with Reachin For Your Assets. Morgan also worked with Terry Cross and Stephen Stephens of Riverside Ranch in Weatherford, Texas for several years.

“Sandra has shown horses for me and I’ve shown horses for her,” Stephen Stephens who is an AQHA judge and current NSBA President said. “We all started out the same time in the horse industry together. We have been good friends for many of years. She is a quite hard working individual and talk about work ethics–she is amazing.”

Stephens adds, “Her and her husband Dave are both so deserving of this and they have a son at the University of Victoria, and they work hard to keep him there. They got it right when the odds were in there favor for them to win this. Very heart warming.”
