The AQHA World Championship Show boasts more than 3,500 entries for this year’s event, November 5-19 in Oklahoma City.
More than 2,100 horses from 47 states and seven international countries will make their way to Oklahoma City on November 5-19 for the 2011 AQHA World Championship Show.
With a total purse payout of $2,689,012, owners and exhibitors from as far as Austria, Brazil, Canada, Germany, Italy, Mexico and Venezuela will be be well-rewarded for their efforts at this pinnacle event for the American Quarter Horse.
“Our World Show entries are at 3,572 – the last time we hosted over 3,500 entries was in 2002,” said Don Treadway Jr., AQHA executive vice president. “AQHA is more than ready to make this the best World Show yet, and if the entry numbers are any indicator, so are the AQHA members.”
Open ranch sorting, the largest open performance class at the event, with 184 entries (92 teams), has the largest class purse – $105,330. On the amateur performance side, amateur ranch sorting will sport 156 entries (78 teams) and a class purse of $69,705.
In terms of halter classes, amateur performance halter geldings, with 36 entries, takes the title of largest amateur halter class, while weanling mares, with 37 entries, is the largest open halter class.
In all, 1,549 amateur and 2,023 open entries will combine to account for more than 3,500 entries at this year’s AQHA World Show.
The event also hosts two special awards – the Farnam All-Around Amateur and the Farnam Superhorse. In the race for the Farnam All-Around Amateur award, 64 contenders will face off during the Bank of America Amateur AQHA World Championship Show. And 46 horses will vie during the FedEx Open AQHA World Championship Show for the Farnam Superhorse award.
And in respect to the Oklahoma City-area economy, the expected local economic impact from the AQHA World Show is more than $32.8 million.
