GoHorseShow is happy to report that the Gunn family of Greensburg, Indiana has purchased AQHA Congress and World Champion trail horse, Design By Leaguer (Bevis). The 19 year-old black gelding was owned by amateur Jane Humes of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Humes told GoHorseShow that she has a “heavy heart” tonight but knows that Bevis is in good hands.
“I have two younger horses in training, and I will be doing mostly futurities this year, so I thought now would be a good time to sell Bevis,” Jane Humes told GoHorseShow. “I won the Amateur Trail with him at the Congress and Jason Martin won the Senior Trail at last year’s AQHA World Show. I loved showing him, and he is a fantastic trail horse, and there won’t ever be another one like him. I wish the Gunn family the best of luck.”
Bevis was bought for 56 year-old Steve Gunn who first started showing not too long ago in the Select Amateur Events. Steve and Motion By Pro were the 2011 AQHA World Champions in the Select Amateur Trail, and after his win, they decided to retire the 23 year-old gelding and started looking for a “fail-safe” trail horse for Steve.
“My father is a farmer so he works from March to November in the fields, so he doesn’t have much time to show except for about six shows a year,” Steve’s daughter Caroline Gunn explains. “We needed to have a good old broke trail horse that knew the ropes, and Bevis is a perfect match for my father.”
Caroline adds, “Bevis will pretty much be living the life of retirement besides going to a few shows with my father to get qualified and the World Shows. I also will be showing him in the amateur trail but he is pretty much my dad’s horse and Jason Gilliam will show him in the Senior Trail. We are very excited and could not ask for a better horse!”
Design By Leaguer has been top ten at the World Show eleven times. The 1993 black gelding is by Ina Different League and out of Sweet Booger by Booger Niner. Caroline says that the Gunn family would like to thank Jane Humes and Highpoint Performance Horses, Jason Martin and Charlie Cole, for this amazing opportunity.
