Help APHAs Lauren Kelly Raise Money for Cystic Fibrosis

Hello Everyone! It’s Spring once again, and that means that it’s time to start fundraising for Cystic Fibrosis (CF)! We have registered a team for a walk on May 5th. We will be working hard until then to raise money for CF research and awareness. Below is the donation information and how to donate. Our team goal this year is $3000, which is double last year’s goal of $1500. We far exceeded our goal last year, and we believe we can do it again!

A little back-story on Lauren’s history with CF:

Lauren was diagnosed at 3 1/2 months of age in July 1991 with the disease. Most recently, she has been doing well with minimal hospitalizations, but CF continues to complicate things in Lauren’s everyday life. Lauren was diagnosed with diabetes in 2007, and she has been on insulin since 2009. Up until December 2011, she was doing up to 5 shots every day with a vial and syringe. We were blessed to get her an insulin pump, so now she gets the insulin that she needs and only has to change the site and take a shot once every three to four days. What a blessing!! She takes part in 3 – 30 minute treatments each day, with nebulized medications Albuterol, Pulmozyme, and antibiotic TOBI or Cayston. She also continues to utilize her G-tube feedings, receiving up to 1500 calories while she sleeps. She has gained 10 lbs since October, nearly reaching her goal weight. She is currently pursuing degrees in Graphic Design and Dental Hygiene, and attends Lewis and Clark Community College close to home.

She continues to show frequently, and has several shows planned this spring with her horse, Chaps (APHA: Sheik Sock Broker), and trainer John Kayser of Edwardsville, IL. 2011 was her first year in the Amateur division, but due to illness and injury, she was only able to participate in a handful of shows. We all hope that this year will be better for her!
