AQHA Announces Qualifying Method for Novice Championship

For American Quarter Horse Association affiliates that have not submitted a qualifying method, AQHA recently developed a standard state/provincial qualifying method for the 2012 AQHA Novice championship shows that are October 5-7 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Las Vegas.

The standard state/provincial qualifying method developed by AQHA is only applicable to members in good standing with AQHA who reside in the states/provinces that did not submit an affiliate qualifying method. See the list of submitted affiliate qualifying methods at www.aqha.com/novicechampionships.

The AQHA standard state/provincial qualifying method is as follows:

  1. The exhibitor must be a member in good standing with AQHA.
  2. For each state/province that has not submitted an affiliate qualifying method, AQHA will take the top three point-earning exhibitors from that affiliate in each of the Novice classes that are being held at the 2012 Novice championship shows. These points must have been earned between May 1, 2011, to June 30, 2012.
  3. Qualifying will be done on the one-exhibitor, one-horse basis.
  4. In the event of a tie, all of the exhibitors involved in the tie will be invited.

If an exhibitor has nationally qualified for the Novice championship shows, he or she is not eligible for state/provincial qualifying.

“AQHA wants every Novice competitor to have the opportunity to qualify for the 2012 Novice championship shows,” said Patti Carter-Pratt, AQHA executive director of shows. “Competitors were given two options to nationally qualify.

“The majority of AQHA affiliates submitted qualifying methods at AQHA’s request, but we want competitors residing in states and provinces that have not submitted qualifying methods to also have the chance to state/provincially qualify,” Carter-Pratt added.

The qualifying period for the 2012 Novice championship shows wraps up on June 30. Competitors who qualified for the 2012 event can expect entry forms in the mail after that date. The entry deadline for the 2012 Novice championship shows is August 31.
