AQHA Will Reward New Road Warrior Trophy to Novice Competitors

Competitors attending the AQHA Novice championships and the Scottsdale Classic, or All American Quarter Horse Congress, will vie for the AQHA Road Warrior trophy.

A lot will be on the line October 5-7 at the 2012 AQHA Novice championship shows in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Las Vegas. But for competitors who wish to hit the Scottsdale Classic in Arizona then the SmartPak West AQHA Novice Championship Show, or the Nutrena East AQHA Novice Championship Show then the All American Quarter Horse Congressin Ohio, a whole new trophy is up for grabs.

What’s at stake for these hard-hauling competitors is the AQHA Road Warrior trophy, awarded to the high-point Novice youth and Novice amateur who competed at these dual events.

To be eligible for the Road Warrior trophy in the West, the exhibitor must have competed in Novice classes at the September 27 – October 3 Scottsdale Classic in Arizona. The exhibitor must then compete at the SmartPak West Novice Championship in Las Vegas. Scottsdale Classic show management will provide AQHA with a list of the top 10 Novice high-point competitors from the Arizona event, and the Road Warrior trophy in the West will be presented during the awards ceremony on October 7 at the Novice championship.

To be eligible for the East trophy, competitors in the East must first compete at the Nutrena East Novice Championship in Murfreesboro, then compete in Novice classes October 5-28 at the Congress in Columbus, Ohio. AQHA will provide Congress show management with a list of top 10 Novice high-point competitors from the Nutrena East Novice Championship, and the Road Warrior trophy in the East will be presented at the Congress.

This brand-new trophy is certainly something to write home about: The AQHA Road Warrior trophy will be specially designed by AQHA’s new trophy company, Awards Recognition Concepts.

The Road Warrior trophy provides yet another means for AQHA to recognize the hard work and connection that American Quarter Horse riders must have with their mounts at the championship level of competition.

“AQHA knew going into the inaugural Novice championships that a lot of competitors were going to be attending the Scottsdale Classic or Congress plus the Novice championships,” said Patti Carter-Pratt, AQHA executive director of shows.

“Competing at either one of those Quarter Horse shows and the Novice championships is quite the haul, and we want to recognize the road warriors and their talented American Quarter Horses who put in consistent, competitive performances at both venues,” Carter-Pratt added.

Hauling for the Road Warrior trophy provides yet another perk: Both Quarter Horse shows count toward qualifying for the 2013 Novice championships.
