GoHorseShow is excited to report that Only Invite The Best better known as “Betty Buckskin” made a successful comeback this past weekend in Monroe, Washington. In December of last year, Betty was involved in a trailer accident that resulted in severe injuries and a long road to recovery. It was touch and go for awhile, but she seems to have fully recovered.
In Monroe, Betty had several firsts in the performance halter mares, amateur pleasure, and senior western pleasure in her impressive comeback to the show arena.
“It has been a long road back to health and soundness since December,” says owner Candice Hall who owns Betty along with her husband, Corey Seebach. “There were a few times we were ready to give up and pronounce her ‘pasture sound’, but we kept up with multiple bandage changes, doctoring, antibiotics and anti-inflammatories.”
According to Hall, about six weeks ago, her wounds and scar tissue took a turn for the better and Candice’s trainer, Kristy McCann was allowed to start a very slow walking program. McCann followed a strict regime dictated by the vet, with five minutes of walking, then five minutes of jogging, and eventually a bit of loping–while closely watching her injured leg.
Hall told GoHorseShow that Betty had to get on another horse trailer immediately after the accident on the highway, and a few more to get from the hauler to vet hospital and eventually back up to Graham, Washington from Texas.
“She is so kind and trusting, she just walks right onto the trailer and hauls great,” Hall states. “It really is a miracle that she could come back from her injuries and still want to be hauled and be a show horse–what heart she has. We are so thankful for all the hard work Kristy McCann put into Betty’s recovery.”
