Colorado Fires Evacuation Facilities and Lost Pet Information

“It has been an extremely difficult day today for many of our friends and trainers who live in the Blackforest fire evacuation area,” says a spokesman from Excel Associates Show Management who is currently holding the Colorful Colorado Quarter Horse Show at the Norris-Penrose Equestrian Center. “Many are safely evacuated to Douglas County Fairgrounds, Elbert County Fairgrounds and here at our show grounds at the Norris-Penrose Equestrian Center. We wish safe passage to all as Colorado fights these awful fires.”

GoHorseShow is also aware that horse trainer Kelly McDowall recently evacuated the horses from his training facility due to the wildfires and several people including trainer, Leslie Lange and amateur, Jason Wanderer, pitched in to help move the horses to the fairgrounds.

“In addition to the show horses there are over 100 evacuated animals stabled at the show grounds,” says, Wanderer. “I took a walk around the stalls tonight and it was a humbling experience. A true menagerie of different animals and breeds. The news has said that those who can not evacuate their animals should write their name of the animals, cut fences and turn them loose.”

According to Wanderer, trainers, Chad Evans and Bill Bormes evacuated their horses Thursday night. Amateur, Betty Watt, also had 26 horses brought to her ranch by their owners to escape the fires.
