New Arena Planned for APHA World Championship Show Facility

The Fort Worth Convention and Visitors Bureau recently announced plans to construct a new Multi-Purpose Pavilion at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth, Texas, home of the AjPHA and APHA World Championship Shows. Construction on the $4.7 million project will commence in March, and officials estimate the 2014 APHA World Championship Show, scheduled for November 5–15, might be the first event to use the new exercise arena.

Located on the north side of the Richardson-Bass building, the 145’ x 300’ Multi-Purpose Pavilion will feature a 125’ x 250’ covered arena with covered access to the Richardson-Bass Building and the John Justin Arena. Though it will often be used as exercise or competition space, the pavilion can also be used for additional stallion needs, covered parking, outdoor exhibitions and more.

“We have been very fortunate to complete some much-needed improvements to our complex over the last few years,” said Kirk Slaughter, Public Events Director for the City of Fort Worth. “This project will provide an amenity that all of our equestrian events will appreciate and utilize year-round and support our mission to bring top equestrian events to Fort Worth.”

News of the improvement comes on the heels of recent renovations to the Will Rogers Memorial Center of more than $60 million. Established in Fort Worth in 1936 to house events near downtown and in the Cultural District, the Will Rogers Memorial Center attracts more than two million visitors a year. It is host to an extensive variety of cultural, educational, recreational and sporting events and has become a premier destination for national and international equestrian events.
