————————————–

Longtime AQHA show manager Carol Moore of La Junta, Colorado, died April 1. Carol, with her husband, Don, owned and operated Moore & Co. Professional Horse Show Management. AQHA events managed by the Moores include the Oklahoma Quarter Horse Association Redbud Spectacular in Oklahoma City; the Kansas Quarter Horse Association Prairie Classic in Oklahoma City; the Colorado Super Circuit in Colorado Springs, Colorado; the Boom Circuit in Amarillo; the Heart of Texas Spring Circuit in Waco, Texas; and the Region Eight Regional Championship in Wichita, Kansas.

The Moores managed the Arizona Quarter Horse Association Scottsdale Classic for 10 years, as well. Born in Denver and raised in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Carol came from a family steeped in American Quarter Horse tradition. Raised with horses, Carol competed in 4-H, Palomino and Quarter Horse shows until high school. During her high school years, Carol became involved with rodeo, traveled to Canada and met and went to work for Harry and Karen Vold. Eventually, Carol returned home, then graduated from business school. Over the years, Carol met and married a pilot, gave up horses and became a pro-am golfer, according to www.mane-events.com.
Following her divorce, Carol returned home to Colorado in 1979 with her two children, John and Elizabeth, in tow. There, she met her surviving husband, Don. Before they married in January 1983, Carol and Don designed a computer program especially for horse-show management, which revolutionized event management. And by revolutionizing horse-show management, Don and Carol opened doors for many other managers to follow. The Moores’ one goal at every show was to have an exhibitor friendly atmosphere, and because of that, a Moore-managed event bears its own definite stamp. It’s been a stamp that has left a great impact on the American Quarter Horse show industry.
Stay tuned for funeral arrangements for Carol Moore.
