The American Quarter Horse Youth Association is now accepting nominations to compete in the Justin Boots Freestyle Exhibition, brought to you by Tener’s. The exhibition will feature showmanship, sponsored by AQHA Professional Horseman Tommy Sheets; horsemanship sponsored by AQHA Professional Horsewoman Patty Vatterott; hunt seat equitation; and reining on August 7 at this year’s Built Ford Tough AQHYA World Championship Show in Oklahoma City. Online nomination forms and fees must be received no later than July 1.
Exhibitors will dress up and perform showmanship, horsemanship, hunt seat equitation and reining maneuvers to music they select. A panel of judges will score the competition.
“Last year’s freestyle exhibition let the youth show their creativity and horsemanship skills, it allowed them to let their hair down and have fun,” said Robin Alden, manager of AQHYA and youth development. “We are excited to see what the talented exhibitors come up with this year for their freestyle exhibitions.”
A total of 12 exhibitors (three from each discipline) will be selected randomly to compete in the exhibition. All participants must be AQHYA members and exhibitors at this year’s Ford Youth World. Horses chosen must also be entered in the Ford Youth World and present on the grounds. Each exhibitor will have a sign on his or her stall front to indicate that he or she is competing in the exhibition.
Exhibitors will receive a prize package from Justin Boots and Tener’s, including $250 for first place, $150 for second place and $100 for third place.
Nominations are due July 1. Nominees will pay a $5 fee to enter their name in the freestyle exhibition drawing. If drawn to compete, a $70 entry fee will be required from each exhibitor. The drawing is July 3 and all participants will be notified by July 5.
