All-Time Great Hunter Under Saddle Dam, The Katwoman Passes

GoHorseShow is sad to relay the news that Congress Champion, High Point winning, and Reserve World Champion producing dam, The Katwoman has passed away. The 1994 bay hunter under saddle mare was loved deeply by Doris Collier and the Augsburger Family of Pinetree Quarter Horses. At 20 years-old, the beloved mare had developed bladder problems that the vets could no longer control.

“Today we laid our dear ‘Kat’, to rest,” Doris Collier said about her mare. “She was one of the greatest breeding hunter under saddle mares there is… all of her foals, except one due to an injury, have very impressive records. We are proud to build our small breeding program around her and her foals. Kat only had two fillies and we have both of them and are going to continue on with her great bloodlines through them.”

The Katwoman was by Kat Man Zip and out of Stony Rullah (TB). She was bred by Veda Gardner of Kearney, Missouri. Kat and Lori Augsburger had a successful show career with 431 Amateur and 176.5 Open Hunter Under Saddle points. The beautiful bay mare also accumulated nearly $20,000 in the AQHA Incentive Fund earnings.

Even with her impressive show career, Kat’s legacy will be as one of the most prolific producing hunter under saddle dams of all-time. Some of her offspring have amassed impressive wins including Congress Championships, an AQHA Reserve World Championship and AQHA High Point wins. Her babies have accumulated over 1,856 points and $45,953.85 in NSBA futurity earnings.

Her foals include: Hes A Natural Kat (Natural Iron), The Kat Tails (Coats N Tails), Miss Kat Tails (Coats N Tails), One Hot Kat (Hot N Blazing) The Krymsun Kat (One Hot Krymsun), Kats Krymsun Star (One Hot Krymsun), Hot Kattitude (Hot N Blazing), and One Hot Katwoman (Hot N Blazing). (pictured left–a few days before turning 20)

“What a legacy she has left us,” Doris told GohorseShow on Wednesday. “She lived a great life and blessed us with many wonderful foals and she gave her heart every time she went into the show ring. We are so blessed to have three of the Kat’s babies on the trailers showing now.”

GoHorseShow sends our condolences to everyone associated with this wonderful mare.
