New at the AQHA World Show

2015 AQHA World Show qualifying points

Starting at the 2015 AQHA World Show, Level 2 classes will be offered and Level 2 entries will be eligible to win Level 2 championship titles. Level 2 classes will be offered in a one-go-round format. Awards for Level 2 will be awarded after each preliminary.

  • Scored classes: Level 3 and Level 2 scored classes will run concurrent with the Preliminary Level 3 (world championship) class.
  • Halter classes: Level 3 and Level 2 halter classes will run concurrent with the Finals Level 3 (world championship) class.
  • Rail/placed classes: Level 2 rail/placed classes will be held as a one-go separate class.

To enter a Level 2 championship class, the Level 2 exhibitor/horse will be required to earn half of the Level 3 qualifying points and must be Level 2-eligible for that show year. Horses/exhibitors eligible for Level 2 and Level 3 will be able to enter both levels. A separate entry fee for Level 2 will be applicable. View Level 2 qualifying points here.

“The goal of AQHA leveling is to add to the value of American Quarter Horses and enhance AQHA member experiences,” said Pete Kyle, AQHA executive director of shows and judges. “With adding Level 2 championships to the AQHA World Show, more horses and competitors are recognized for their efforts in the arena.”

Halter competitors (not including performance halter) can earn an invitation to the 2015 AQHA World Show by competing at a pre-determined number of shows in a halter class during the qualifying period. This participation qualification style requires amateur competitors to compete at 10 shows, while open halter competitors have to compete at 20. Shows will be counted by show numbers on a one-horse, one-exhibitor basis.

If a horse earns its performance Register of Merit during the qualifying period, plus the number of performance halter points required to compete at that specific world show, it will qualify to show in performance halter at the 2015 World Show. If a horse earned its performance ROM prior to the qualifying period, he/she will need an additional 10 riding points during the qualifying period in order to qualify for the 2015 World Show (in addition to earning the required number of qualifying points for performance halter). Only riding points earned in the open division can be used for qualification in the open division of the AQHA World Show; however, open points can cross over to count for amateur, Select and/or youth performance halter qualification for their respective world shows as long as the points are earned during the respective qualifying period. Showmanship points do not count.
