About the Cover
At just 13 years old, Rose Amala of Redmond, Washington, has already made a name for herself in the Quarter Horse show pen. But, if you ask the incoming eighth grader, she’s much more excited about what’s still ahead than anything she’s already accomplished.

Horses have always been part of Rose’s life. Her mom, Tamara grew up showing Appaloosas and Paints, and it didn’t take long for that passion to rub off. Rose got her first horse, a miniature pony named Jack, when she was just three years old, and she’s been hooked ever since.

A few years later, Hunter Jumper trainers began working out of her family’s barn, and Rose’s interest in riding grew even stronger. Around the same time, her family bought Ellie, her first Quarter Horse. At just eight years old, she made her AQHA debut showing Ellie in Walk-Trot classes in Washington.

In 2022, her family purchased Pawn Star from Sydney Swallom, and Rose showed him in the Small Fry events at the NSBA World Show and the All American Quarter Horse Congress before moving into the 13 & Under division the following year.

Another exciting chapter began last year when her family purchased AQHA World and Congress Champion, Snippity Snap, better known as “Boo,” from Kent Ray Taylor. Today, Rose trains with KRT Show Horses under the guidance of Blake Weis.

The new partnership quickly led to one of the biggest moments of her young career, winning the overall Youth All-Around title at the 2025 All American Quarter Horse Congress.

“Blake, Mirko, and Steffi worked so hard with Boo and me, and I’m so happy everyone’s hard work paid off,” she says. “I’ll always be grateful for them, the opportunity to compete at the Congress, and for that memory.”

This year, Rose is showing both Boo and Pawn Star, and she appreciates what each horse brings to the arena.

“Boo has the sweetest personality and is so much fun to ride,” she says. “Pawn Star has taught me so much over the years. He makes me work for it, but he always takes care of me.”

Amala’s favorite classes are Horsemanship and Western Riding. She loves the challenge of a Horsemanship pattern and the satisfaction of riding smooth, clean lead changes on a loose rein in Western Riding.

As she looks ahead to the AQHYA and NSBA World Shows, Rose’s goals are simple: ride her best, keep learning, and enjoy every opportunity.

Her biggest role model is her mom, whose favorite advice is, “Fake it till you make it.”

For Rose, that means believing in herself, trusting the work she’s put in, and never losing sight of what matters most.

“I hope to always stay grateful for the people and horses who have helped me along the way.”
