About the Cover

With her new horse, Cool Made Machine (Booker), and her heart horse, Amarillo By Moonlite (Larry), Estelle McParlan of Fennville, Michigan is featured on the cover of this month’s GoMag. McParlan has already been racking up awards this year in the 14-18 Youth Events under the talented supervision of Shannon Walker.

“This season has been going great. Larry has been a good boy, and so has Booker,” the 16-year-old high school sophomore told us. “It’s a fun process of learning and growing with Booker. I’ve shown a lot this year, which has helped me get to know Booker, and he gives his all every ride and class.”

Estelle and Booker had an outstanding Sun Circuit, winning the 14-18 All-Around and the Non-Pro English Horse All-Around, winning their first saddle together. McParlan says it’s been different this year, with Larry and her only showing two classes instead of doing the all-around. Their best performance was at The Madness, where they won a buckle for the circuit in the Youth Western Riding.

Her favorite wins with Larry have been their 2023 Reserve World Championship in the L3 14-18 Trail and L2 Championship in the 14-18 Western Riding at the AQHYA World Show.

“Larry is very talented; he’s a great lead changer and has become an amazing partner. Larry became a great all-around horse, but is happy with his life of Trail and Western Riding. He still has that spark though and always keeps me on my toes, which makes every success that much more rewarding.”

Although a new team, Estelle says that winning a saddle at the Sun Circuit with Cool Made Machine has been a highlight of their show career so far.

“Booker is an outstanding horse in every way. He has a willing personality and is the sweetest boy. He’s a beautiful mover who can successfully go from Western to English events. I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to have him as my new all-around partner. He gives his all to me every single ride.”

Show ring successes aside, Estelle says that one of the greatest parts about this industry is the friends she’s made.

“Winning is awesome and fun, but win or lose, I want to experience it with these people I have become so close with. From my best friends in this industry and our team, to my close friends and even those I’ve casually met, I have felt the greatest love and support,” Estelle says. “In tough times, my circle helps lift me up, and in wins, there’s no better way to enjoy it than with them. Our Show Horses By Shannon team is a family, and I wouldn’t want to do this with anyone else.”

Everyone at GoHorseShow wishes the best of luck to Estelle throughout the year and beyond.
