Description

Provide overall direction of AQHA’s Judge, Steward and Drug Testing Programs. Work in concert with the Show Department and Judge Committee Members to provide industry leading service and educational opportunities that advance the mission statement of the Association. Develop revenue generating opportunities that contribute towards a balanced budget and overall fiscal responsibility. Advance AQHA’s position as an industry leader while ensuring the integrity of its officials.

Required to office onsite at AQHA headquarters in Amarillo.

Responsibilities:

Oversee related events as part of the staff liaison support for the Judge Committee at Convention and subsequent Judge Committee, Sub-Committee and Judge/Steward related task force meetings, conference calls and training events.

  • Oversee related events as part of the staff liaison support for the Judge Committee at Convention and subsequent Judge Committee, Sub-Committee and Judge/Steward related task force meetings, conference calls and training events.
  • Oversee the vetting team for new judge applicants.
  • Oversee the hiring of judges, ring stewards and show stewards and set their assignments for all AQHA Championship Shows.
  • Oversee the drawing, selection, and digital creation of patterns for all Championship Shows.
  • Oversee the judge and show steward communications, newsletters and surveys.
  • Oversee the planning, developing, administering and executing judge and show steward workshops, education, online recertifications and applicant testing.
  • Oversee the content for presentations, visual aids, graphics and videos for workshops, education, online recertifications and applicant testing.
  • Oversee the development and updating of online learning modules for carded judges, show stewards and exhibitors (AQH University).
  • Oversee score sheet updates/corrections.
  • Oversee pattern updates/corrections.
  • Oversee judge monitoring functions at all AQHA Championship Shows.
  • Provide input on different avenues of judge and show steward education, analyzing trends regarding judges and make recommendations on ways AQHA can remain in front of those trends.
  • Follow the industry and provide feedback on AQHA rules related to judging and shows then make recommendations on improving those rules to maintain the integrity of competition while growing the sport.
  • Oversee the sanctioned show drug testing program, show steward assignments and logistics.
  • Develop and implement strategies to ensure the expertise and integrity of licensed officials.
  • Analyze related program data and report on key performance indicators.
  • All other duties as assigned in support of advancing Show Department activities.

Knowledge:

  • In-depth knowledge of AQHA rules and regulations, particularly show rules and judging procedures.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, production methods and coordination of people and resources.
  • Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods. This includes alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral and visual media.

Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree preferred. Minimum of 10 years industry experience required.

Specific Knowledge:

Management and supervisory experience.
Proven track record in communication, judging, show management, leadership skills and working on multidisciplinary teams.
Must have the ability to travel.
Must have a working knowledge of AQHA’s drug testing procedures and processes.
Must have a vision for developing innovative judge/steward education and training material.

IT / Technical Knowledge:

Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Applications.
Must be proficient in using and building content in a learning management system.
Must be proficient in video development and production.
Must be proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud Suite (specifically InDesign and Photoshop).

Education

10 years: Equine Industry Experience
