Mississippi QH Announces 2020 Year End Award Winners

Jackson, Mississippi January 30, 2021 – Mississippi Quarter Horse Association President Brooks Derryberry stated, “We are very proud of all the members who participate in our shows, and happy to present them with the awards for the 2020 show season.”

Two Deserving Individuals were inducted into the MQHA Hall of Fame-January 30, 2021

Charlie Temkovitz was a very active member in the 1980s. Temkovitz served on the Board of Directors of the Mississippi Quarter Horse Association for many years and is a Past President.

Temkovitz had shown in various futurities, having raised and trained many horses over his lifetime. Besides the futurities, Temkovitz had trained many riding horses, both pleasure and timed events.

Many have seen such honors as multi champions of the Dixie National Quarter Horse Show and earning over $100,000 in lifetime earnings. Temkovitz remains active in the horse industry.

Thelma Thompson was the next inductee to our Hall of Fame. A behind-the-scenes person, Thompson was the co-founder of the Southern HORSEMAN Magazine.

The first edition hit the market in October 1962 and remained the news source for the southern region horse activities until its last edition in 2007. Long before Facebook, Twitter, and the internet, the Southern HORSEMAN served the industry by hosting upcoming shows, articles on association events, and trainer and farm advertisements.

Ms. Thompson served the Mississippi Quarter Horse Association well in her position. Our association received great worth from her publicizing our shows, year-end awards, and the like. Ms. Thompson supported the Dixie National Quarter Horse Show and reserved many pages each year to publicize the show and its winners.
