During the past week, 51 AQHA Select all-around amateur contenders competed in a variety of events throughout the AQHA Select World Championship Show, presented by Adequan® (polysulfated glycosaminoglycan).
The AQHA Select All-Around Amateur is Jim Bound of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. Bound showed the American Quarter Horse Bound To Be Dun, owned by JB Bound of Fort Atkinson. The 2008 red dun gelding, who is by Dun It Gotta Gun and out of Not Dun Cookin, was bred by Lisa Lubbert of Fort Atkinson. Bound and Bound To Be Dun earned 56.5 points. They earned the world champion titles in tie-down and heading, and placed third in stake race, breakaway and heeling.
They received a prize package that included $10,000, an original Lisa Perry bronze, Impact Gel saddle pad and rose bouquet.
Bound also won the AQHA Select Reserve All-Around with Bound To Paint Chex, who is owned by daughter Jax Bound of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. The 2010 palomino gelding, who is by Helluva Chex and out of Guns Brownie, was bred by Hilldale Farm of Brashear, Texas. Bound and Bound To Paint Chex earned 32 points. They earned the reserve world champion title in breakaway roping and placed third in heading, fourth in tie-down roping and eighth in the stake race.
Bound and Bound To Paint Chex received a prize package of $2,500 and a silver bowl.
The third-place Select all-around amateur is Lisa Neiberger of Argyle, Texas, and No Question Im Lazy, owned by Neiberger Performance Horses LLC of Argyle, Texas. The 2012 bay gelding, who is by Lazy Loper and out of My Invested Machine, was bred by Denise Gordon of Hopedale, Ohio. Neiberger and No Question Im Lazy earned 31.5 points. They won the reserve championship in horsemanship, placed sixth in showmanship and performance halter geldings, and were finalists in trail.
The fourth-place Select all-around amateur is Laina Banks of Schulenburg, Texas, and Strawberri Wine. The 2008 red roan mare, who is by Openrange and out of Buddys Buffalo Gal, was bred by Katie Green of Pilot Point, Texas. Banks and Strawberri Wine earned 31 points. They won the world champion title in western riding, placed third in horsemanship and were finalists in showmanship.
The fifth-place Select all-around amateur is Vickie Kent of Graceville, Florida, and Won Lopin RV Machine. The homebred 2009 chestnut gelding is by A Good Machine and out of Ill Be Dun Won It. Kent and Won Lopin RV Machine earned 26.5 points. They won the reserve world championship in trail and placed seventh in western riding and eighth in horsemanship.
The Select all-around amateur third- through fifth-place award winners received a prize package that included $1,000.
AQHA also awarded the Gene Graves Super-Select Special Recognition Award. The award is presented to the Super-Select exhibitor, age 70 and over, earning the greatest number of points in competition at the 2018 Adequan® Select World. This year, 77 exhibitors competed for the award.
This year, Butch Morgan of Elbert, Colorado, and his American Quarter Horse, SF Check Me Out, took home the title by winning the world championship in heeling and reserve world championship in heading. SF Check Me Out is a 1999 bay gelding, who is by Look Whos Larkin and out of Katie Chex, bred by Steve Fleming of Comanche, Texas. Morgan and SF Check Me Out received a specially designed plaque for their accomplishment.
