March Spring Shows Issue of GoMag Online Now

March…the month made famous for St. Patrick’s Day, Spring Break and college basketball’s March Madness. But in our horse world, it’s the month that horses are being bred, you hope your chaps fit, and there’s a sense of excitement about the upcoming show year. The March 2018 issue of GoMag salutes the month of March and all of the great things it represents.

The cover of the March issue of GoMag features one of the few stallions in history who has won a World Championship title in both the western pleasure and the halter. John Simon, the stunning bay and white tobiano stallion, has that and more on his resume.

On the Cover

The Legendary APHA stallion, John Simon graces the cover of the March issue of GoMag. John has made his mark in the arena year-after-year with over $100,000 in lifetime earnings, and his offspring are following suit. His two most well-known progenies are his APHA World Champion sons, Elicious and Im Johnny Cash.

“We bred, raised and trained both, so having them go on to do so well has been such a heartwarming journey to be on. It’s one that I will never take for granted or forget,” says owner, Erin Bradshaw. “To watch them show alongside their dad makes the moments priceless.”

Erin Bradshaw and her husband and trainer, Scott Weis, also have a two-year-old named June Cash who is a full sibling to Im Johnny Cash (pictured right) that they plan to show at the APHA World Show.

We asked Erin what sets John apart from other stallions in the industry. “I think his show record speaks volumes along with the fact that two of his sons are winning right alongside him. One being, what I call more royally bred, Elicious, and the other being more foundation/old school bred, Im Johnny Cash. Both offspring are on two different spectrums when it comes to breeding, looks and movement, so it has been neat to see how strong John comes through on the crosses. When you look at John’s show record, his winning started as a three-year-old in 2009 and he won his first APHA World title in 2010. Fast forward eight years later and he is still winning and setting the bar for western pleasure horses.

Bradshaw adds, “I just think that is something no one can take away from him or downgrade. He is truly the only western pleasure stallion to do what he has and to continue to do what he is doing. He is carving his way into APHA history books and I’m just happy God chose me to be his partner along for the ride.”

Erin would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has been a part of this journey, and thank her husband who has played such a prominent role in putting John on the map as a sire. “Scott is the talent behind everything we do so I can never thank him enough and, as always, thank you to all of the wonderful mare owners for believing in him as much as we do. The sky’s the limit!”

Watch for Erin showing John Simon and his offspring at all the major APHA shows coming up this year. Please contact Joan Schroeder of Kiowa Ranch at joan@kiowaranchtx.com or at (940) 727-3474 for all breeding information.
