About the Cover

This month’s GoMag cover features Keeping It Good and Gavin Patterson. The talented Western Pleasure gelding is owned by Debbie and Dennis Martin of Piketon, Ohio.

“When the Martin’s decided they were going to geld him, the opportunity for me to show him came about,” Patterson told us. “Goody was gelded about a month ago; the reason being that he had already created some pretty amazing offspring and the Martins saw more potential for him as a gelding and a show horse. I couldn’t agree more. His reappearance in the show pen has been pretty spectacular.”

Gavin’s favorite win so far with Goody would have to be at the Tom Powers, where they won the Youth Western Pleasure (pictured right). “Nothing is more special to me than being the last one standing in the arena and loping out as a champion,” Patterson states. “I have always had a goal of winning the Tom Powers, making it one of my favorite wins of all time.”

Last month, they were also Youth 14-18 Western Pleasure champions at the Buckeye Classic and recently named to the Ohio NYATT in Western Pleasure.

Patterson credits Goody’s willing disposition as being one of the instrumental keys to his success. “Goody has such a pleasing and goofy personality. He loves to stick his tongue out. It’s one of his favorite things and many of his offspring inherited this trait from him.”

This new team will be showing at the NSBA World in the Youth Western Pleasure and Maturity Limited and Open Western Pleasure. Also, Karen Hornick will show him in the Senior Western Pleasure.

“I want to thank Goody for always giving one hundred percent in the show arena; Ty, Karen and Lauren for helping me reach my wildest dreams; and mostly, the Martin’s and Kylee Wiseman for the greatest opportunity someone could ask for you. You guys have a heart of gold.”

GoHorseShow would also like to wish Gavin the best of the luck this month at the AQHYA World Show in the Western Pleasure on his mare, She Will Be Hot (pictured left, far right).

“She is the reason why I love showing and why it is so fun,” says Gavin. “She holds a very special place in my heart and will forever and always be my once-in-a-lifetime horse and my best friend.”
