We are saddened to report that horseman and beloved friend, Benny Guitron passed away on Sunday evening after a long battle with cancer. Guitron, of Merced, California became a member of The National Reined Cowhorse Association’s Hall of Fame in 2015 and spent the last 30 years with show clothing designer, Paula Duiri. Our thoughts and prayers are with him, Paula, and their many friends and family.
GoHorseShow will update everyone on funeral arrangements as soon as they become available.
Many friends and fellow horsemen shared thoughts about Benny on their Facebook Pages
Dana Avila – We lost one of the greatest today. He lived a life that missed out on nothing! I absolutely can’t imagine my life at horse shows without him holding court at the stalls telling stories. You will be forever missed Benny Guitron. Our thoughts and prayers to Paula Diuri and the Guitron family.
Tate Oakley – Our hearts hang heavy today- Benny, you put up a hell of a fight! Thanks for being patient and answering all my crazy tack questions, for teaching me the ropes- but more than all, thanks for the friendship! You’re now riding in greener pastures with all the greats! Praying for you Paula Diuri!
Rest Easy Ben!
Troy Heikes – Benny was a cowboy a horsemen a coach and a friend to so many! But the Benny I know wouldn’t want sadness he would want us to celebrate his life! Go kick their asses in heaven as you did on earth my friend! A Legend has passed but his legacy lives on! Rest my friend..the pain is gone.

We are asking everyone to please send prayers to the legendary horseman, Benny Guitron. Benny’s cancer has been in remission, but he is having complications associated with his cancer treatments and has requested to stop all medical care. In October of 2013, Benny was diagnosed with a common childhood leukemia called acute lymphocytic leukemia.
His close friend, Rick Meredith, was kind enough to update us on his condition.
“Please pray hard for my friend Benny Guitron,…he has been through a terrific battle this past year…he wants it to be over, and I respect his choices…I talked to a mutual friend this morning and Benny will move from the hospital to hospice…prayers for Paula as well…she’s been through a lot herself…love you Benny…always a horseman…I can hear your spur rowels..from California all the way to Texas.”
