The saying, “Cats have nine lives” couldn’t be truer for the cute orange tabby cat named Jasmine Augsburger.
At the Little Futurity in Raleigh, North Carolina three years ago, Andrew, Lori, and Cheyenne “Scoot” Augsburger were getting ready to leave and found an orange cat under the horse trailer scared and crying. So, like most animal loving people would do, they crawled under the trailer to rescue her and took her home to Florida with them. They named her Jasmine and she immediately became a part of the family.
Jasmine fit right into the horse show lifestyle and made herself right at home in the Augsburger’s living quarters trailer. She went to the NSBA World Show and Congress that year and young Scoot could often be seen leading her around on a leash. Once horse show season was over, Jasmine left her job as the horse show cat and become a barn cat at their Pinetree Quarter Horses.
Scoot told us that Jasmine takes her job as the head barn cat very serious. “She loves to be on top of the trailers at the farm so she can see everything that’s going on.” (Jasmine pictured right at home on top of trailer)
While they were packing for the Congress, Jasmine must have realized the Augsburgers were getting ready to leave.
“We were loading a few last minute things and we had seen Jasmine walking around the farm,” Cheyenne told us.
Choosing to leave Jasmine at the farm instead of taking her to the Congress this year, the Augsburgers drove through all kinds of weather on their way to Columbus, Ohio; from sunshine to pouring rain, to 70 MPH strong winds, they encountered it all. It wasn’t until they were ten hours into their drive when they stopped for gas that Lori Augsburger looked on top of their six horse trailer and found Jasmine tucked under the hay pod.
“I think she was under the box that sits on top of our trailer. We still aren’t sure how she hung on,” Lori said.
The Augsburgers climbed to the top of their six horse trailer and rescued Jasmine, for the second time. She rode the rest of the way happy and purring in their living quarter trailer and is now their designated barn cat mascot at the Congress.
“I’m so glad we can laugh about it,” said Lori. “It’s just a crazy story we will remember forever!”
