Obituary Below:

After a long and often triumphant battle with cancer, Margaret Sue Mulford (Sue), age 72, of Georgetown, Ohio passed away on February, 26, 2016, at home surrounded by two and four legged family members.

Sue was born on May 24, 1943 in Gallipolis, Ohio – the daughter of Huber and Mary Fulton and little sister to David and Michael Fulton.

Sue spent her childhood on a small family farm in Gallia County, Ohio where she was involved in 4-H, church, vocal groups, cheerleading, and dance. She showed Jersey cows and grew up with a love for all animals, but particularly horses! Sue met Denny, her husband of over 50 years, on a church hayride when they were 12 and 13 years old. They dated all through high school and college and married on August 18, 1963.

In addition to her husband, Dennis Mulford, Sue is survived by her two children – Chris (Angie) Mulford of Casstown, Ohio, and Lisa (Lonnie Grizzel) Campbell of Batavia, Ohio; Grandchildren – Cody Campbell, Christina Froelich, and Courtney Sue Mulford; Honorary Grandchildren – Margo Paeltz and Allie Dusha; countless horseshow friends and “grandkids”; Brother – Michael (Mary) Fulton; Sister-in-law – Janet Fulton; several nieces and nephews, her faithful four-legged companion, Zoie, and several special horses and dogs on her farm in Georgetown. Sue is preceded in death by her parents Huber and Mary Fulton and her brother David Fulton.

A graduate of Rio Grande College, Sue taught elementary school in Maryland and Ohio and retired from her position as a Reading Specialist at Russellville Elementary in the Eastern Local School district in 2002.

A lifetime horsewoman, Sue was active as a 4-H horse advisor in Brown County and a member of the American Quarter Horse Association for all of her adult life. Having earned numerous awards and accolades with horses over the years, including a World Championship in Pleasure Driving, Sue’s most recent accomplishment was being named the 2015 AQHA High Point in the nation in Amateur Pleasure Driving.

In 2006 Sue was first diagnosed with cancer while at a horseshow out of state. Having claimed the survivor title three times prior to her most recent diagnosis, she has never let the label cancer patient define her or keep her from pursuing her dreams and celebrating every day with her family and horses!

Sue looked forward to each and every horseshow and particularly enjoyed cheering on her grandchildren in the arena. In addition to her own grandkids she was affectionately known as “Grandma” to countless honorary grandchildren, particularly within her horseshow family.

With a big smile and a sparkle in her eyes, she inspired high standards in everyone around her. One of Sue’s favorite quotes about her life has always been, “It’s been a GREAT ride!” Ideally, St. Peter will open the gates of Heaven wide, as Sue will likely be driving through at a full road gait, with a huge smile on her face!

Funeral Services will be held on March 6, 2016 at the Russellville Elementary School – 239 W. Main Street Russellville, Ohio – at 3:00 p.m., with pastors Stephen Knipp and Brian Shearer co-officiating.

Friends will be received from 1:00-3:00 p.m. and at a reception following the burial. A horse-drawn wagon will pull the casket to the graveside ceremony to be held at Linwood Cemetery on Russellville Winchester Road in Russellville, Ohio immediately following the service and prior to the reception.

Casual dress is appropriate for the service and many family and friends plan to wear BLUE, the color supporters have donned for several years in solidarity and support through Sue’s multiple cancer journeys -#BlueforSue!

Contributions may be made to the Tough Enough to Wear Pink Horse Show, c/o Chip Jackson, 2830 Bloomingburg-New Holland Rd. NE, Washington Court House, OH 43160, or to the Sue Mulford Memorial 4-H/FFA Horse Member Scholarship, c/o Lisa Campbell 4483 Stratford Ct. Batavia, Ohio
