The American Quarter Horse Association is excited to share a pivotal moment in American Quarter Horse history. This fall, Kid Coolsified became the halter industry’s first $1 million sire.
As of November 9, Kid Coolsified’s get have officially amassed $1,107,969, according to Robin Glenn Pedigrees, a subsidiary of AQHA. That total is expected to increase after results are processed from the All American Quarter Horse Congress, where Kid Coolsified offspring scored in multiple classes and divisions.
A 2000 chestnut stallion by Kid Clusified and out of Coolsie Coosa by Ima Cool Skip, Kid Coolsified was bred by Scott Haack’s Arcadia Farm in Spring Lake, Michigan. In 2003, “Coos” was purchased by Kelli Jensen of Freeland, Michigan. During that storybook year, Kelli’s husband, Steve, showed Coos to amateur 3-year-old stallion championships at the AQHA World Championship Show and Congress, while AQHA Professional Horseman Ted Turner Jr. of Aubrey, Texas, showed Coos to Congress and AQHA World championships in the open division, including the grand champion stallion title at the Congress.
Following his open world championship, Kid Coolsified retired to stud under the management of Rick and Julie Leek of Dryden, Michigan. Through his 12 foal crops, Coos has sired 594 registered foals, 174 of whom are point earners. His point earners have set the halter ring on fire, earning 7,921.5 total points, 206 Registers of Merit, 26 AQHA world championships, 20 AQHA reserve AQHA world championships and three year-end high-point titles. He has sired 244 money earners, who have posted average earnings of $4,541.
“I always wanted Coos to have the opportunity to reach this level of achievement as a sire because I thought he deserved it,” Steve said. “I’m really happy that he’s going to have this little piece in history that I think he so rightfully earned.
“Coos couldn’t have reached this milestone without his longtime breeding managers, Rick and Julie Leek. Sincere thanks to them for all they did. Thanks also go to all the mare owners who have continued to support Coos through the years. These are people who love their horses, and appreciate great structure and personality in their babies. That’s what drew breeders to Coos, and that’s what has kept bringing them back year after year.”
In January 2015, Kid Coolsified passed into the co-ownership of Steve Jensen and Billy Franks. He now stands at Billy and Suzonne Franks’ Three Nails Ranch in Cisco, Texas.

Ramping up to Kid Coolsified’s $1 million milestone has been exciting, to say the least. It was at the 2014 Breeders Halter Futurity that Steve was tipped off that Coos was nearing $1 million sire status.
