PF Candids and Rundown from 2015 Tom Powers Futurity

The Jeff Brujack shows hosted by Tom Powers and crew started an exciting week of horse showing in Berrien Springs, Michigan starting on June 20-21st. The futurity part of the event runs June 25th through the 28th, and horse trailers from all around the country can be seen in the camping area. There is always a chance to see the up and coming two year-olds getting worked in the practice pens, and starting at the Tom Powers, there is always a buzz in the air about who has the best futurity horses for the year.

This event is unique in that it is still held outside in Berrien Springs, Michigan which can either be a blessing or a curse. Exhibitors seem to enjoy returning year after year to the excellent campgrounds and great footing that has made this arena well known throughout the industry.

In 2014 the futurity paid back over $318 000 + trophies and awards. Their Two Year-Old Maiden Stakes Class was once again very successful. In this class, they paid back $55,000 between Open and Limited riders. In addition, Harris Leather awarded $3000 to the open winner and $1000 to the limited rider if riding in a Harris saddle. Their guaranteed purse for 2015 is $60,000.

Started in 1980, The Tom Powers Futurity is the oldest continuously operating pleasure futurity in the World. Over 30 years later, this is still the show where many of the top two and three-year old horses make their debut and the best maturity horses come out for a few laps around the pen.
