From Michigan Quarter Horse Association Board Member: Taylor Fabus
What a fabulous weekend we’ve had at the MSU Pavilion in East Lansing, Michigan! This year, MQHA made a tough decision to not host their annual February horse show and instead we focused on a weekend of educational events for our members and the Michigan horse community.
Friday evening, we kicked things off with a 4-H horse judging workshop and then on Saturday the agenda was really packed. We started the day with a practice horse judging contest, followed by our annual tack sale which included nearly 200 vendors.
At noon we began a clinic led by Art O’Brien from Ohio. The clinic focused on the popular classes of trail and horsemanship and was extremely well received by both riders and auditors.
Throughout the day we also had a MQHYA membership drive and soup fundraiser raising over $1000. As if that wasn’t enough to keep a horse enthusiast busy, we also offered classroom sessions on a variety of topics such as the AQHA scoring system with AQHA judge Christa Baldwin, All About Bits with Jimmy Roth, Equine Nutrition with Dr. Karen Waite, Preparing for Equine Royalty with MQHA Queen Minae Zomer, and Turning your Equine Passion into a Successful Business with Christie Showerman of Northfork Outback.
Thank you to all who participated, we’re excited for 2016 and we’ve already begun the planning process!
