Veterinarian Wins Go With the Gold Sweepstakes

Merial Awards Trip to Las Vegas

Deworm your horse and win big? It could happen. Just ask Lindy West, DVM, Hettinger, ND. She is the lucky winner of a trip for two to Las Vegas and two tickets for a premier equestrian event, as part of the Go With the Gold Sweepstakes from Merial. West’s entry was drawn from a pool of names of people who had either purchased ZIMECTERIN® Gold (ivermectin/praziquantel) or watched an educational video about equine deworming.
West comes from a rodeo family and has competed in team roping since the eighth grade. A graduate of the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine, she currently practices at West River Veterinary Clinic. Growing up around horses and studying veterinary medicine in school, she knows a comprehensive health care program, including deworming, is critical to horses’ well-being and ability to perform.
Sharing her knowledge about the importance of deworming is one of West’s priorities. “Many people still follow a rotational deworming program – those programs are based upon information that is more than four decades old. We now know that a strategic deworming program is more effective and efficient.”
Strategic deworming programs are based upon research that demonstrates horses can be categorized into high, medium and low egg shedders, with a very small percentage of horses (20 percent) harboring most of the parasites. Based upon these findings, treating every horse with the same deworming program is ineffective and can actually lead to resistance. A horse owner can determine if his or her horse is a high, medium or low shedder by asking a veterinarian to perform a fecal egg test.
West likely won’t be thinking much about fecal egg testing or strategic deworming protocols while she enjoys her upcoming stay in Las Vegas. The equine team at Merial congratulates her on winning the Go With The Gold Sweepstakes!

About ZIMECTERIN Gold
ZIMECTERIN Gold combines ivermectin, a leading ingredient that controls a wide variety of parasites, and praziquantel, an ingredient that specifically controls tapeworms. Together, they provide excellent equine parasite control.
ZIMECTERIN Gold is approved to control more species and stages of equine parasites than any other brand, including benzimidazole-resistant small strongyles. It controls 47 species and stages of equine parasites in all.
