Paws Cause Dog Adoption Event Huge Success at AQHYA World Show

The first annual, The Paws Cause, was held at the 2014 AQHYA World Show on Sunday and it was a huge success! According to event organizer, Ruth Ellen, 22 dogs were adopted with a possibility of four more getting new homes.

“It was just awesome,” Ellen states. “The adoption groups were really impressed by the event, and they are definitely coming back next year. We were never short of volunteers and 20 to 25 youth helped over the course of the day.”

Ellen adds, “Everyone from AQHA also came over and they also said that they were on board to have the event next year as well. We may make it a two-day event next year.”

The event was held at the Sales Pavilion in Barn three from 11 to 7 and there were people streaming in and out all day checking out the dogs. There were approximately 70 dogs at the event–each dog adopted received Bark N Beads collars handmade by nursing home volunteers and donated by Nan Kreeger; matching leash and bandanas as well as a goody bag.

At one point during the day, the volunteers and dogs also had a pooch parade through the barns to show off all the dogs. Trainer Kellie Hinely’s group at Trendsetter Performance Horses adopted three dogs from the event.

Ellen will also be holding adoption events during the Reichert Celebration in Fort Worth, Texas so stay tuned for more details.
